Northwestern SPS Names New Executive Director of National Resource Center

On February 26, 2015, Steven Thaxton will join Northwestern University School of Professional Studies as the executive director of the National Resource Center (NRC) for Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes (OLLI).
Steve brings over 15 years of senior executive management and leadership experience from the media and broadcasting industry. He has led media organizations in change management, program development and multi-platform growth through digital and new media products. He’s also served as an advisor and board member for numerous not-for-profit organizations, such as the United Way of Greater Portland, the Salvation Army, Southern Maine Community College and the University of Southern Maine.
“Our colleagues at Northwestern have conducted a thorough search to find a worthy successor to Kali Lightfoot, founding director of the Osher Institutes’ National Resource Center,” said Mary Bitterman, president of The Bernard Osher Foundation.  “We wish Steve every success in his position and will look forward to being supportive of his efforts.”
Steve’s deep professional experience in strategic planning, innovation, marketing, and organizational training and development will no doubt transform the NRC into a cutting-edge support center for the Osher Institute network.  His commitment to lifelong learning, proven through his own experience as an OLLI member and volunteer at the University of Southern Maine, will bring new energy and a fresh perspective to the NRC and the field of older adult education.
“This is an exciting time of re-organization for the NRC. I’m delighted to be joining the OLLI team and Northwestern University. I look forward to meeting individual Osher Institute staff and leadership in the months to come,” said Thaxton.
Steve earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota in media management. He earned his MS in adult and higher education from the University of Southern Main in 2015.
Please join us in welcoming Steve to Chicago, Northwestern University and the National Resource Center for Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes.
