Author’s note: I have had a long career as a fiction writer, with nine or ten novels still in print, one of which (“Safe Passage”) was made into a film with Susan Sarandon in the mid-1990’s. I don’t think novelists ever “retire,” really, until we can’t write anymore.

The theme of the book is based on mitochondria: the tiny dynamos in each of your cells that power your muscles, heart, brain, and every healthy system in your body. Legendary cyclist Greg LeMond explains the importance of mitochondria to athletes, his dramatic recovery from a near fatal shotgun accident, arguably the greatest comeback story in all of sports, and the mitochondrial myopathy that shortened his epic racing career. Both authors provide practical advice on the proper exercise, best nutrition, super foods, natural vitamins and supplements, and avoidance of toxicity to maximize your inner energy, increase muscle mass, and maintain mental acuity.
